2014 Liupanshui Summer International Marathon Held Successfully

  At 8 a.m. on July 27, the 2014 “Hengwei Real Estate” Summer International Marathon was kicked off at the people's square with the shot from the starting pistol. Nearly 20,000 competitors from 32 countries and regions, including over 180 athletes from abroad, participated in this race. After heated competitions, men's top three and women's top three for full marathon were won by competitors from Kenya.
  The Municipal Party Committee Li Zaiyong delivered a speech. The Director of Municipal People's Congress Huang Jin, the Member of the Standing Committee, Secretary Municipal Party Committee, and Deputy Mayor Yin Zhihua, and CPPCC Vice President Zhang Junchang attended the opening ceremony.
  Deputy Director of Athletics Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China and Vice President of Chinese Athletics Association Wang Dawei, Marathon Office Director of Athletics Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China Zhang Yongliang, and Director of Guizhou Sports Bureau Cai Guoxiang also attended the opening ceremony.
  In his speech, Li Zaiyong expressed his warm welcome to the athletes and guests from around the world, and gave sincere thankfulness to people from all walks of life that care and support this marathon. Li said: “With the first Liangdu Liupanshui Summer International Marathon successfully held in 2013, the marathon spirit is being promoted among the vast area around Wumengshan Mountain. The summer in Liupanshui features a cozy temperature of 19 degree centigrade, allowing athletes bring into full play of their potentials. Today, with passions, we gathered here again to realize our dreams. And Liupanshui, as an energetic city located on a land of idyllic beauty, will have its name widely known in the world with the promotion of marathon spirit. I believe that the great athletes can do more wonders along the charming racing track on the ridge of Guizhou Province.”
  “Let's join hands and dance in Liangdu to give the world a splendid show.” Li added that he firmly believes that this marathon will be an influential sport event for mutual learning and friendship enhancement, as well as a tourism festival for summer holiday and dream fulfillment.
  The 2014 “Hengwei Real Estate” Summer International Marathon focuses on the theme of “cool marathon and lovely Liupanshui”, and is sponsored by Chinese Athletics Association, Sport Administration of Guizhou Province, and the Municipal People's Government of Liupanshui. Five competition events are included: full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.0975 km), mini marathon (5 km), love-run marathon (1.7 km), and parent-child marathon (1.7 km). The full marathon and half marathon start and end at the people's square, and the difficulty caused by road slope is substantially reduced compared with that in the last year.
  For the men and women full marathon that are most concerned, competitors from Kenya led all the way and defeated others with overwhelming advantage. In men's events, nine of the top ten are from Kenya, and Workneh from Ethiopia ran seventh. Kenya player Kimutai, won the first place with a result of 2 hours, 17 minutes and 29 seconds, setting a new record since the first Liupanshui Summer International Marathon. Mathew, another player from Kenya, raced the second place with 28 seconds behind. Mwangi, came in the third with a result of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 18 seconds.
  Women's events had undergone a fierce competition. The winner is finally decided before the finishing line between Kenya players Chepkanan and Bererwe. At last, the more endured Chepkanan became the winner with a result of 2 hours, 39 minutes and 50 seconds, refreshing the record in the first Liupanshui Summer International Marathon. Bererwe ranked the second with a two seconds disadvantage. Another Kenya player Jepkosgei was the third with a result of 2 hours, 45 minutes and 45 seconds. The top six of this event are from Kenya, the defending champion Zhengwenrong, a player from China ranked seven with a result of 2 hours, 56 minutes and 46 seconds. Another Chinese player Yang Hua took the eighth place with a result of 3 hours, 1 minute and 39 seconds.
